About Unity
Unity is a Dutch project that is supported among others by Jellinek Prevention. It consists of fully trained volunteers who all come from the dance scene. They give information to their peers on large dance events and parties. This is peer education and is called the peer-to-peer method. Basically, young people are more willing to take information from people who they identify as being like them.
The group consists of about 144 volunteers and is very diverse: fans of techno, hardhouse, hardcore, club or trance, you'll find them all in Unity.
Philosophy
The peers are not condemnatory towards drugs and alcohol. A large part of the group uses or has used drugs in a recreational way. It is not our intention to condemn drug use, but respond to questions about safer use, harm reduction, preparation and recovery. Obviously we do not have the wisdom to answer all your questions as no-one knows all there is to know about drugs. But we do have actual knowledge of the various substances, potential risks that their use entails and methods to reduce these risks to a minimum. Anyone who used drugs should know that the use of any substance whatsoever, entails a certain risk to health.
The goals of Unity are:
- Increasing knowledge "Just Say Know!"
What is the effect of a particular drug and what effects may this have on the user?
- Addressing standards and values "Less = More"
How often and how much do you use, what drugs to use, and under what circumstances?
- Promoting safer use "Prepare & Repair"
What concrete measures to reduce risks that the use of drugs entail?
